Smilin'
Sirens
CD BCD123
A dynamic vocal trio that brings
you vivid stories drawing on Country, Celtic, and Jazz roots. Their songs are vivid stories drawn from life. Their
contemporary folk sound is anchored in Country and Celtic roots and reminiscent of the harmony tradition of the
postwar era. Lively, full-bodied, sublime, and sometimes startling arrangements are accompanied by guitars, recorders
and the heart beat of the occasional bodhran. Sirens is Donna Creighton, Nora Galloway, and Jo-Ann Lawton, three
accomplished musicians and songwriters who blend their unique voices into a seamless whole. From their roots in
London, Ontario, the Sirens have brought their beguiling music to audiences across Ontario and the Midwest U.S.,
earning them rave reviews and new fans wherever they go. Their new album "Smilin’” is sure to bring their
music even greater recognition.
“Smilin’” features fourteen compelling original songs that weave an infectious and hypnotic spell. Musically, the
tracks range from the honky-tonk sound of “Smilin’ at Somebody Else” to the upscale jazz stylings of “Misery” to
the maritime folk of “Beautiful Blue” to the haunting harmonies of “Em’s Song” with lots of stops in between. Stories
of the sea (“The Lure of Lorelei,” “Beautiful Blue”) rub shoulders with upbeat hard luck songs (“Smilin’ at Somebody
Else,” “Clickety Clack,” “Fish Need Water,”) and touching songs of family, love and loss (“Em’s Song,” “Good Son,
Good Daughter,” “Rocking” “Margaret’s Waltz,” “All Through the Night”). With a flawless vocal blend, inventive
arrangements, and solid songs, this is one mixture that works Featuring guest appearances by Don Reed, Bob Johnston,
Paul Mills, Bill Garrett, Tom Leighton, Chris Coleman, Chris Quinn, and more.
Produced by Bill Garrett.
