Mixed Cargo
Tom Lewis
CD BCD116
Canada's sailor-turned-singer
returns with a boatload of new songs!
If you like a good song, you'll love Tom Lewis' new album MIXED CARGO. Born in Belfast, Tom served for 24 years
in the British Royal Navy as a submariner before landing in British Columbia and beginning his new career as a
singer arid musician. His singing has taken him to folk clubs and festivals around the world, where he has earned
high praise for his clear, strong voice, his marvelous songwriting, and his definitive interpretations of sea shanties,
ballads, British Music Hall, and contemporary folk music.
MIXED CARGO features Tom on his own and singing with some of his favourite musical partners. It's all here - new,
old, shanties, ballads, funny, sad, sentimental, stirring, great choruses and blistering harmonies. But above all,
there is Tom's wonderful voice, by turns powertil, emotive, and enchanting.
There are traditional songs ("The East Indiaman, "Aye, Sir, Aye"), songs Tom fashioned from his
own seafaring background ("An Ex-Sailor's Life," "Showers"), Wartime classics ("F.I.R.E.
Fire!," "Romefires," "Goodbye, Dolly Gray"), contemporary folk songs ("Normandy Orchards,"
"Writing of 'Tipperary"), and even a pop song ("Devoted to You"). It's a fine collection for
anyone who appreciates wonderful songs and great singing.
